My latest project is based around contrasts, and involves painting and drawing
in different medias, so far i have used graphite, acrylic, and charcoal.
The contrast i chose for my project was open/closed, after taking a few pictures
of what you might expect, drawers and doors etc. I decided id like to do a portrait study,
and faces and people offer many possibilities for this contrast. Not just the eyes and the
mouth, but as a person you may act open, your body language will convey openness
if you sit in a certain way because of a certain mood or emotion,
or you may feel closed because of depression or anxiety, so your hands might
cover your face, or you arms might wrap around you knees.
It is this concept of body language that i will explore the human figure and form
with the theme of open/closed.
